Our Logo – the White Raven
The name Bertram means “the shining raven” (from Old High German “beraht” = shining and “hraban” = raven).
Ravens are among the largest species within the order Passerines and are known to be the most intelligent birds.
Ravens feature in legends and fairy tales around the world. In many of these stories, ancient gods and kings utilized their wisdom, intelligence, and ability to fly. For example, in numerous fairy tales, the wise raven “röiven” (Old German) often helps lost hikers find their way and provides valuable tips along the journey.
In Norse mythology, the raven symbolizes wisdom. The god Odin was always accompanied by his two ravens, Hugin and Munin, who would perch on his shoulders and inform him about events in the world.
Hugin is derived from the Old Norse verb “huga” (to think), while the related noun “hugi” (thought, meaning) forms the basis for the name Hugin. Munin comes from the Old Norse verb “muna” (to remember).
